Renovating a terrace by the lake

Renovating a terrace by the lake

Wooden terraces are constantly exposed to rain, snow, temperature changes and direct sunlight, creating optimal conditions for infestation by wood-decaying fungus, mould and insects. Just ask Marta Anyż, manager at Bochemie Poland: she sells Bochemit wood protection on a daily basis. And she’s been confidently using it in her own garden in the Swietokrzyskie province of Poland.

She began her terrace renovation by deep cleaning the wood’s surface with a high-pressure cleanser, removing all impurities, moss and discoloured coating from the surface. Once dried, she applied Bochemit Opti F+ impregnation to protect it against pests. After around seven days, she treated the wooden planks with Bochemit Estetik Profi in hazel, a thin oil glaze which maintains the wood’s natural pattern rather than masking it. The wood is now also protected against UV rays, which would otherwise cause decolouring.

“The glaze is really easy to apply and spread with a thick brush, because it is so fine in its consistency. The wood absorbs much of the first layer of the glaze, which is extremely penetrative. The second and third layers then require much less glaze. Once dried, the wood has a very pleasant, velvety structure, which I particularly appreciate in places where I spend my free time, such as on a terrace. So I expect the terrace to stay nice for longer. After all, Bochemit Estetik Profi has a lifetime of longer than 15 years,” adds Marta.
