Emil Zátopek Cottage at the highest peak of the Beskydy Mountains

Emil Zátopek Cottage at the highest peak of the Beskydy Mountains

A new building was constructed at the site of the former demolished Plesnivka cottage on Lysá Hora, which is the highest peak of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy Mountain Range. The cottage bearing the name of Emil Zátopek offers modern facilities for the thousands of tourists who come to Lysá Hora. Construction of the building was completed by the owners a few years ago. Bochemit was used to treat the wooden parts of the structure.

The Emil Zátopek – Marathon Cottage, to use the full name of the structure, is a resort where guests can enjoy refreshments, accommodation and entertainment or just sit back and enjoy the view of the Beskydy Mountains and the distant peaks of the High Tatras. Building this facility was not an easy task. Lysá Hora had already two tourist cottages at its peak. Both buildings were lost in the 1970s, the first in 1972, when the Silesian House, built in 1880 as a chalet for Albrecht of Habsburg, burned down. Six years later, the Bezručova Cottage from 1935 succumbed to the flames. Two temporary structures were later placed at the highest peak of the Moravian-Silesian Beskydy. However, they were not sufficient for either the rising number of visitors or the increasing demands for the comfort of tourists. The Emil Zátopek Cottage (and other new buildings) raised the level of services substantially. The originator of the project is architect Antonín Závada and his Arstav studio. As is the case with many other projects involving wood construction, in which Mr. Závada specialises, he recommended preventively treating the utilised wood with Bochemit. The architect has been recommending Bochemit for nearly 45 years. Though he has tried other products during that time, he values not only Bochemit's functionality, but also its price and availability, as well as the technical advice and service that come with it.
