Under the Badger Rock

Under the Badger Rock

Does this cottage in the Šumava region of Klatovy look familiar to you? Yes, the film Under the Badger Rock (Pod Jezevčí skálou) starring Tomáš Holý and Gustáv Valach was shot here in 1978. However, the building has a much more turbulent history: Even as early as in the maps from the time of Maria Theresa one can see that there was an inn here. After the Second World War, it was not razed to the ground like many other houses in Šumava due to its convenient location by the road, but served the army in the newly established military district as a headquarters building. After its general decay it was converted into stables for cattle and after the revolution it was used only as a hayloft. At the beginning of the new millennium the roof broke due to heavy snowfalls and the house then fell into disrepair. The restoration of the inn began in 2006 and it has been open to the public since the summer of 2009. In addition to the restaurant, you can also use the accommodation services.

The gable, the balcony and the replaced ceiling beams of the Rovina cottage were treated with Bochemit Estetik Profi, the painting was done by Holzberg s.r.o. from Hrádek u Sušice.
