Water mill in Vepřek

Water mill in Vepřek

The water mill in Vepřek in Mělník region, also called Satran's Mill, is a representative of rich manor mills. The earliest written record of its existence is found in the 1596 urbarium of the St. Vitus Chapter, but it is possible that its roots date back to the 14th century. The mill complex represents a complex that was built continuously from the Gothic period through the Renaissance and Baroque to Classicism. The buildings and structures have been preserved in their mass, partly in their layout, exterior and interior, with many valuable original architectural features and details. The site is of architectural, technical and historical significance and is a valuable testament to the development of construction from the Middle Ages to the 19th century, including preserved complete technological equipment dating from the late 19th century to the 1930s. In addition to the mill building, the complex includes farm buildings, a granary from the 17th century, barns from the early 19th century and stables from the early 20th century. The two-storey building of the so-called new mill of almost square ground plan from the 1830s is situated in the terrain sloping down to Bakovský potok (Bakov Brook).

The completed rescue work and restoration of the valuable complex of buildings also included the repair of the timber roof truss. The building of the so-called new mill has a hipped roof with a short ridge. After repairing and completing the missing parts of the structure and replacing the undersized cantilever and column, the colorless product Bochemit QB Profi was applied on the basis of Martin Volejník's project in accordance with the requirements of the conservation authorities.
