The wooden church in Breb, Romania, has been brought back to life

The wooden church in Breb, Romania, has been brought back to life

The Wooden Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel, in the village of Breb, is a significant Romanian landmark. The church was saved from ruin by Charles, Prince of Wales, the heir to the British throne. Also playing a key role was Deposib Expert, a Bochemit distributor that treated the church materials using Bochemit Forte Profi.

Breb Church stands on the quiet edge of Breb, a village that lies on the north-western slopes of the Gutin Mountains, towards the outer edge of the Maramures Basin. Built in 1642, some of the church dates back as far as 1531. The church tower is one of the oldest in Romania and is listed as a national cultural heritage site.

Breb’s reputation takes it beyond Romania, stretching as far as the United Kingdom, with some of its properties owned by Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne. The village also captivated one English photographer of National Geographic, who — together with his wife — worked to reconstruct the site of original wooden buildings.

These efforts helped to secure the future of Breb Church, which had previously been in a critical condition. The British royal family then stepped in to help restore the landmark, and has since been joined by others.  The materials applied to pre-treat the new wood used in the project were sponsored in part by Romanian firm Deposib Expert, the official Romanian distributor of the Bochemit brand, using Bochemit Forte Profi to treat roofing wood in particular. The project was also sponsored by Bochemie.

The rescue mission was brought to a successful completion on 23 April 2018. “We were delighted to provide our professional solutions. Thanks to Bochemit, we were able to renovate dozens of monuments that are of incalculable worth to our country,” said Ilie Moga, manager of Deposib Expert.
